PROFIPOL®+: Modern design and new functions

The BENNING's new generation of two-pole voltage detectors stands up to the test with additional functionality.

Since its launch in 1948, the two-pole DUSPOL® voltage tester has been a BENNING quality product, used by experienced electricians and service technicians in particular. Equipped with additional functions, such as load connection and rotary field testing, it still represents the perfect device for professionals involved in the installation or testing of electrical equipment on a daily basis.

In order also to offer the semi-pro a cheap yet standardised voltage tester, BENNING developed PROFIPOL® around 20 years ago. Simpler and more compact than the DUSPOL®, but just as robust, this voltage tester was and still is used mainly by in-house technicians, craftsmen and DIY-enthusiasts, and has proven particularly popular in the spheres of heating, plumbing and furniture.

In order to cope with the current requirements of industry and crafts of quality, functionality and optics, BENNING made fundamental changes to the casing. With the new PROFIPOL®+, BENNING once again underlines its competence in the field of testing, measurement and safety technology. Designed as an entry-level model, the voltage tester not only guarantees a reliable check but is also very handy and easy to use. However, as part of further development, it was not only given a modern, higher quality design, but also new functions for other applications. In addition, we ensured that the latest DIN EN 61243-3:2015 and IEC 61243-3:2014 requirements were met.

Practical design

Through the design modified in shape and colour, PROFIPOL®+ has now gained new mechanical properties, thus allowing locking of the testers and one-hand operation to test sockets and safekeeping. The compact and slim design of the display handles has stayed the same. Only 21 cm in length and with a total width of just 5 cm, the tester is still very convenient.

Another new feature is the colour matching the handles. With red for “+” and black for “-”
they now have the same colours that are generally used for measuring equipment safety test leads.

Additional functions

In addition to the extension of the test voltage range up to 690V, continuity testing, outer conductor testing and the non-contact cable break detector feature among the new functions of the PROFIPOL®+. Continuity testing is indicated by a clear, audible sound signal and at the same time the yellow LED lamp with the symbol “Ω” lights up brightly.
In earthed systems, the single-pole conductor test is possible straightaway, so that the phase and the neutral conductor can be distinguished from one another in a socket, for instance. It does not replace the two-pole test to determine the absence of voltage.

New independence

The new generation of PROFIPOL® also has the advantage that testing the absence of voltage is always possible, independently of the battery voltage, and is indicated up to the final voltage range of 690V. Generally, when dealing with flat batteries, competitors usually only meet the standard specifications and signal with an LED if an extra low voltage (ELV) higher [than] 50V AC or 120V DC is on. The built-in micro batteries are only necessary when using other functions.
The tester can be used in circuits of overvoltage category III 600V and category II 690V, whereby the voltage specification of the categories always refers to the potential of the outer conductor to earth.
A function already recognisable to users of the DUSPOL® digital and DUSPOL® expert is the cable break detector. This makes it possible to locate the phase voltages without interrupting the contact and is a function that can be used from an AC voltage of approx. 200V. Starting from the power source, the “detector” is led through a live wire, i.e. a cable drum or light chain. As long as the line is not interrupted, the LED lights up the “Ω”, thus indicating a phase voltage.

Experience BENNING products live

The reengineered PROFIPOL®+ voltage tester will be an essential to be found in  specialist tool retailers and hardware stores in the future – wherever DIY-enthusiasts and professionals alike look for low-priced, high-quality and safe tools. Of course, electrical wholesalers will also add PROFIPOL®+ to the programme, alongside DUSPOL®.

Test it for yourself!

BENNING is offering the opportunity to experience different metering devices live at electrical engineering trade shows or specialist trade partner events live. Discuss its quality and functionality in person, true to the motto “taken from practice to use in practice”. Interested? We’d love to hear from you.
