8,000 kilometers for a good cause
4L is what the French call their “cult” car, we call it the R4. The organization "Efants du Désert" (Children of the Desert), whose aim is to promote schooling in the Moroccan desert, is an official partner of the 4L Trophy rally.
At this rally, the focus is not on speed, but on humanitarian action. Each team has 10 kilograms of food and 50 kilograms of school supplies for Moroccan children in their luggage.
This spring, for the eleventh time, a train of around 1000 R4s from eight countries started in Biarritz, France, and made their way through the Moroccan desert to Marrakech via Spain. Students from the Soest University of Applied Sciences, among others, were supported by BENNING through sponsorship. The students themselves collected school materials for a year and spent countless hours in the workshop to get their, more than 30-year-old, pink R4 ready for the gravel roads, potholes and desert sand dunes.
We think it's a great event, because every year more than 60 tons of school supplies come together, which the organization "Enfants du Dessert" distributes to the various schools.
